ETA– Thanks to Scott, I spent this morning trying to wrap my sleepy brain around the wikipedia article on fuzzy logic, and then from there ended up contemplating the evolution of washing machine technology also on wikipedia… But I did manage to do laundry! And he’s right, fuzzy logic is linguistic, scientific, and totally applies to washing machines and the help that I apparently need is to figure out a non-fuzzy sort of logic for myself, but then that’s what a control system could be for… Oh, and now I’m dreaming of side-loading washing machines again.
Actually, fuzzy logic is a scientific term, and even has its own page on Wikipedia.
